Mission Appeal 2013

Mission Appeal 2013

Chanda is a diocese situated in central India in the province of Maharashtra.

His Excellency Msgr. Vijayanand Nedumpuram CMI is the present bishop of the diocese. The diocese completed fifty years in 2012. The people are mostly farmers. There are 40 parishes and missions. The total number of priests including religious in the diocese is 81 with almost 400 religious sisters and few lay catechists.

As Christian population is a minority there are several problems connected to evangelization and conversion. The diocese and different religious congregations run children’s homes, schools for mentally challenged, hostels, regular schools, hospitals etc.

However thrust is on evangelization as there are still areas in the diocese not heard of Jesus and his message. The diocese has a minor seminary with 40 candidates.  The diocese needs your support for education/training of missionaries and for basic needs of the poor in the diocese.

This weekend, Fr. Joy Puthussery is with us for Mission appeal. He is the Vicar General and pastor in one of the parishes in the diocese.
